Long Painting

Pier 26 (SF) #3. 36" x 102". Mixed media on wood panel.

This is one of the paintings I've been developing for a group show in New York in April. The show features three British painters and will be at Stricoff Fine Art gallery in Chelsea. It opens on April 7th. www.stricoff.com
The photograph was taken by my friend Trish Tunney in her studio. For more of her work visit www.trishtunney.com
I still have a few paintings to finsh so I will be working around the clock for the next few weeks.

Mexico Memories

In this week of rain and snow I'm thinking about my wonderful time in Mexico last year. I'm remembering the energy and color of the city of Merida. This photo shows some of the paintings I did in response to that trip. When I'm shivering in my cold studio this little corner of color makes me feel all warm again!

Street Posters

Poster Hunt: I walk around the neighborhood looking for old posters which have been applied to plywood hoardings or old buildings. When they are thickly layered - about five or six layers - and it has recently rained it is usually quite easy to pull them off in one piece. After soaking them for a while in a large tray it is possible to peel back the layers to reveal the posters beneath. I then glue fragments onto panels to create vibrant underpaintings.
Above is a collection of fragments I found this week. Below is one of the resulting underpaintings. It measures 48" x 24" and I have no idea what it will turn into!

Upcoming Show

I know it's early to send out a notification for a show in April but this one is in New York and some of you might be planning a spring trip to the Big Apple. If you are - come and join me for a drink at the opening on April 7th. I'll post this notice again nearer the time.

Now I'd better get on and complete the six to eight paintings I've promised!
